At the foot of the White Mountain, the Adrère Amellal ecolodge quietly emerges. Below it, green groves of date palm and olive trees shade cool freshwater springs, and beyond, Siwa’s largest salt lake glistens before the dunes of the great Sahara. It is still and silent but for the rustling of leaves and lapping of water.
In its every detail, Adrère Amellal embodies the harmony between nature and mankind that defines Siwan culture.
The ecolodge is built out of kershef, a mixture of sun-dried salt, mud and sand, in the style of a traditional Siwan home. A natural insulator, kershef keeps rooms cool in the hot summer sun and mild in the crisp desert night, glowing amber in the lantern and candlelight, the only source of light.
Blending ancient tradition with natural luxury, guest rooms are furnished with colorful Bedouin carpets and palm frond chairs, and tables and beds draped with linens of fine Egyptian cotton embroidered by women of the oasis (Siwa Creations).
Siwa’s own Chef Atef presents a healthy and delectable all-inclusive menu using only locally grown, organic fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices.
